Restaurant review – Genta, Auckland

Location: 8 Commerce Street, Auckland Central
Hours: Lunch 11:45 – 3:00 (Mon-Fri only);
Dinner: from 5:30pm everyday. BYO Sun-Thurs
Favourite Dish: From the Teppan selection – okonomiyaki, takoyaki and tompei
Not so good: Desserts

I was really excited when I first found Genta. When you enter the restaurant you have that sense that you are back in Japan. Decorated in true izakaya style, the staff welcome you with a strike of the taiko and an empowering “Irasshaimase!”

The waitresses are Japanese and wear yukata so this is a good spot if you: want to order in Japanese; and/or want to take a friend to soak up the Japanese ambience.

While the dishes are not particularly expensive, some could be considered a tad on the small side. Still, if you buy dishes to share amongst a group, you shouldn’t have to spend much more than $20. They have a decent selection of Japanese alcohol too. Check out http://www.genta.co.nz for their menu.
